How I Made My First Sales Online (FULL STORY)

I got started with online marketing back in 2010 while deployed overseas.

I was sitting in my room, when I got an email for a product that looked really appealing to me. It had it all the nice house, nice car and the income proof to back it up.

(Not once while I read the sales letter did I think it was a scam – in fact I thought if he could do this then I sure as hell can)

The product cost me $997.

I got a DVD box set sent to my home in the States.

I got access to the digital version of it and started taking action on it.

I didn’t see results for 13 days.

On the 14th day I was getting ready to come home for leave and 10 minutes after I got on the plane I had earned a little over $60 in commissions.

Here’s how-

I bought traffic from adwords and sent it to a blog post with an opt-in form. Those that opted in went to a paid offer.

I ended up with 235 subscribers that day and now had $60 in commissions sitting pretty inside of ClickBank.

That was all the proof that I needed that I could do this online.

And more even showed me that just building a subscriber list can produce sales.

So if you aren’t getting the results you want to be getting online, chances are you aren’t building an email list and if you are, your emails suck.

What Is My Favorite Paid Traffic Source?

Another awesome question comes from Gary who is currently having the best of luck with solo ads and Facebook.

So I’ll guess I’ll chime in.

My favorite paid traffic method that I have had the pleasure of using so far would have to be email advertising (solo ads for short)

Here’s why..

They still require the same amount of research that any other paid traffic method, you know how much you are paying per visitor, and you can get your business up and running quickly with them.

The only problem someone could have with email ads is in the mind.

Some think (and some teach) that if you don’t make sales right away then you got crappy traffic. Which is just complete crap to teach people that.

A lack of sales comes from the marketer not the traffic provider – although they do have a hand in that.

Which is why the research portion is so important but even before the research you need to make sure that everything in your funnel is working and know how to improve it if something isn’t.

How To Get Started With Affiliate Marketing (Step By Step Guide)

One of the things that I love about email marketing is that it can be used in almost any industry.

If they accept email then you can crush it with email marketing.

Same thing goes for affiliate marketing.

Its safe to assume that those who want to do affiliate marketing want to do it in the IM niche.

Since that is the case the best place to start would be with some Youtube videos.

Start creating videos on YouTube for the products that you see coming out. Start making ‘real’ reviews of these products that build a relationship with your viewers.

I wouldn’t start sending people directly to my affiliate link in my videos but I would send them to a landing page where they can get on my email list.

The new subscriber already knows who you are so they will be that much more interested in what you have to say in your emails when you start promoting products as an affiliate.

Where Does One Start In Internet Marketing

A question that was asked by Kaleb Wade who is looking to get started online.

Its really not a bad question to ask despite how angry some people may get because it seems “dumb to ask”

Here are my thoughts.

A great place to start is the mirror.

Meaning you walk up to the mirror and you ask yourself why you want to do this to begin with.

Once you can answer that you ask yourself why you want to do that.

You keep asking why until you can no longer answer the question.

I call it ’The Why Funnel’ because you are truly drilling deep down as to why you want this to become a reality for you.

Why I think this is important?

Because when things get hard (which they will) you will have to remember why you started in the first place. So that you can keep pushing forward towards the results that you are after.

So give this a shot today.

Grab a sheet of paper and ask yourself why you want to get results online – then keep drilling down until you can no longer answer the question.

For days when you’re working so hard but not seeing the results

One of the common complaints I hear a lot these days from marketers goes a little something like this: “Isaiah, I’m working so hard on my business but I’m not getting the results I expected… what am I doing wrong”

Its a big concern.

I fully understand what that feels like as well.

I’ve been there more times than I can count.

Seems like you aren’t moving at all – while everyone else around you is just crushing it with their business.

Look there is nothing wrong with you.

There is something wrong with what you are doing.

Here’s what I mean.

Say you want to make 100k a month and you are only making 100 a month.

If you were to take a deep honest look at what you are doing, do those activities match those of someone who is making 100k a month or those of someone who is making only 100 a month?

You have to bring up your level of activities to get the results you want in your business.

So if you wanted to make 10k a month in your business – you need to get real conformable with spending an uncomfortable amount of money generating traffic and building your email list.

Like the amount should scare you.

I remember my first 4k month.

The amount of money I was spending was scary to me.

To go from spending 100 bucks every once in a while to spending over 400 in a single day scared the shit out of me.

But you know what, I got a lot out of that experience.

And quickly realized that if I wanted to build my business much faster than I was at that time – I needed to raise my activity level to do that.

Buy more traffic.

Work longer hours.

Send more emails.

Lose sleep for a while.

It was scary but its what I had to do to really figure out why I wasn’t moving as fast as I wanted.

The best part?

You will quickly find out what works, what doesn’t and create a system for the things that work.

Then you can just scale what works.

I built a business up to 1500 a month doing that. And could easily sell it for at least 10k.

Or I can scale it to about 15k a month then sell it for over 150k.

Again my levels of activity would have to increase to hit 15k a month with that business.

There is nothing wrong with you.

You can do this.

You just got to start focusing your time and attention on the things that will produce the biggest results.

Worrying about a logo isn’t one of them but creating an offer or getting traffic, building your email list will really move the needle forward.

Hopefully this inspires you and gives you some insight on what it is you will have to do to get the results you want in your business.

Trust me – its better to learn it this way than to spend years figuring it out.

Maybe you should get a job

Some folks just aren’t cut out to be building a business online.

Here’s why…

1 – They believe in getting something from nothing.

Meaning they don’t want to offer anything of value to anyone – all they think about is themselves…

They don’t give a damn about those in the community they wish to serve all they want is their hard earned money (sounds a lot like the people I talked about yesterday)

2 – The attitude man oh man the attitude

They can’t criticism or feedback from anyone now a days.

Whats worse is that the brainless marketers ask for it and when they get answers they don’t like they want to fight.

Hurry get your alphabet guns ready to type the meanest and harshest response ever.

3 – They want long term results while working short term

Everybody wants to make a sale quickly for some reason.

It screams desperation.

More so it screams neediness.

Which means you lose all power of what happens in your business because you will do things like drop your price just to make a sale or worse – do something for a week and call it quits.

If you have a solution to a problem that I am facing and you charge me a buck for it – I’m running to your competitor who charges 10x more because he takes is seriously enough to charge what its worth.

If you fit any of the three it might be time for you to hang up your fresh and polished marketing boots and get a jobbie job.

Let those of us who wear our beaten to death marketing boots and uniforms out into combat and fight the war that you weren’t cut out for.

How to kill your credibility with no credibility

Here we go again.

Something I have been seeing a lot of online.

People who want to teach people how to get a certain result and they haven’t got the results they are aiming to teach.

Here’s an example…

One of my mentors told me a story about how he hopped on a coaching call with a guy who wanted to make more sales for his business.

He asked the guy how much he was currently generating per month.

His answer was 500 bucks.

He asked what he was teaching…

His answer was how to make six figures a year.

Face Palm.

How in the world can someone who only makes around six grand a year teach anyone how to make six figures a year.

Its no wonder why he was struggling to make more sales.

He couldn’t speak about what he was teaching with absolute confidence.

And this is how you kill your credibility – even if you don’t have it.

Browse around and I’m sure you find someone who is asking others how to get more traffic – while advertising a free report or webinar on how to get more traffic.

It makes no damn sense and really needs to stop.

Not just for the industry you may be involved in but for your sake as well.

I mean if other people see you asking questions about something and see you advertising for the answer to that question – what do you think other people would think?

That you are F.O.S. (I’ll leave it to you to figure out what that means)

Moral of the story.

Start teaching people what you currently get results doing. Advertise for that first then scale once you get other results.

Mindless Newbies Need Help

Its sad really.

Mindless zombie like newbies who want to “earn a full time income” doing nothing.

You can’t even earn full time income working a job doing nothing – so what makes you think you will be able to do it without putting some work in.

As one of my readers Clarence said:

“There are many ways to make money online but they all have one thing in common – hard work. There’s no such thing as a free meal.”

You want something you go to put the work in.

The only question is are you mindlessly doing things that make no sense or are you following a proven formula for getting results?

I’m talking something that goes from Point A to Point Z.

Sure, the path to getting to Point Z may have you taking turns, hitting bumps along the way but its worth it.

If Point A isn’t where you want to be right now and Point Z is – don’t you think it would be worth a little bit of hardship to get there? Take a little bit longer to get there? I sure as hell think so.

What I would do if I was starting over

Often times I get asked what I would do if I were to start over – of course with no money, no list, or anything.

So buckle up because this could get long.

1 – Get a job

Got to keep the bills paid right? What better way to do that then to get a job – more so I would work the night shift so I can take the morning to work on my business (more on that later)

2 – Sell anything that doesn’t generate revenue on eBay or Craigslist

I’m talking TVs, computers, laptops, game consoles, cell phone, text books, I would just go around the house selling pretty much everything I don’t need.

3 – Garage sale arbitrage

Go to garage sales and buy up stuff with the extra money I’m making from eBay and the new jobbie job and repeat #2.

4 – Once I have about 200 green ones I would start up and learn how to use a WordPress site to build my list and promoting other peoples products

Got to learn how to build a site right?

5 – Start meeting up with local businesses and start offering them website building services.

Start small to get my feet wet, and then start going big with the pricing – outsourcing when I have too many clients.

6 – Leverage my personal site that I originally started (and should by now getting results with) to get bigger clients and charge more – outsourcing the client getting process as well or run a few FB ads.

7 – By the time I get to this step I should have a pretty decent sized email list – where I would have been emailing them daily to other peoples products – eventually getting to the point where I can dump the client work and just do email marketing.

The crazy thing is… I’ve actually done this.

A few years ago – and let me tell you when you see your income jump from like 800 bucks to about 2k a month in a month – you know you are working your a$$ off.
